WILL LIVE MUSIC GO BACK TO NORMAL?
Student Ffion Harris asks the question we are all thinking about regarding Live music.

The Corona Virus pandemic over the past year meant that people had to stay indoors and any live music event was canceled. Music artists and bands had to postpone their tours until either the end of this year or until next year.
When concerts start again I think that it will take a lot of time until they go back to normal.
At first, I don't think there will be as many people in the audience but I think that even after a while, smaller venues will suffer as there won't be as many people allowed in.
I think that concerts will be the last thing that will be allowed to start up again because there will be so many people in one place.
I also think that smaller artists that play smaller venues will suffer at first because venues will be more interested in bigger artists.
Many of the smaller venues have suffered in the pandemic as they haven't been able to cope financially.
It will take a while before things get back to normal but I cannot wait to start going to concerts again soon as it is a completely different experience and atmosphere to just listening to music on a phone.
New Music - Ragsy
This is the second offering from Ragsy’s eagerly awaited forthcoming album ‘One More For The
Road' Volume 1 which was recorded at Northhouse studios, co-produced with friend and
producer Chris Peet and features the artwork of Ragsy’s partner Hannah Day.
Ragsy, whose debut single off the album ‘The First Time’ made the Wales A-List, said : “The
album itself has been a long time coming, with a delay in its release in early 2020 due to the
effects that the COVID-19 pandemic continue to have on the world, as well as the music industry.
“The second single ‘Under Clear Skies’ has been described as an upbeat, vibrant, soulful song full
of passion and driven by telling a story of the distance that being in a loving relationship can
sometimes bring. Followed by that yearning and deep routed desire we experience along that
journey, we go on in the hope of reuniting with that special person ‘The One’.
“Whether it be the distance that comes from having to work away, or having to make that difficult
choice to look after a family member as we have heard happening so often as we live in these
trying times that the COVID-19 global pandemic has brought, or in this instance is 200 miles
away and traveling through treacherous weather to get back to the woman I love. Again I feel this
is another song I’m sure we can all draw similarities to.”
The album ‘One More For The Road’ features the single ‘The First Time’ which has had
an overwhelming public response so far. It has been play-listed on many radio stations worldwide,
as well as being selected for the exclusive BBC Radio Wales Welsh A-List.
This first single off the album has been described as:
● Wynne Evans - BBC Radio Wales “A Belter of a song and an anthem”.
● Ben Dain-Smith - Bro Radio “The single begins with immediate heft, as distorted and reversed
sound makes way to a driving acoustic guitar track, swirling synths and Fleetwood Mac, "Big Love"
style, grunts, before layered harmonies take you into Ragsy's warm, somehow
familiar-on-first-listen, vocal ”.
● Steve Kenward - Welsh Connections “The punchy, spacious production by Chris Peet evokes the
emotional intensity of Echo and the Bunnymen and The Smiths. This clean, driving arrangement is
contrasted brilliantly with Ragsy’s soulful vocal – stretching and bending notes like Kelly Jones, but
with a distinct tone that is all his own”.
● Sadie Maude - Original Rock “The track has a tame, laid-back sound with the addition of Ragsy’s
swagger-filled vocals giving it that extra edge. The single has been taken from his forthcoming
album ‘One More For The Road’ and offers a great insight into the kind of vibe we can be
expecting. It builds hype all while not giving too much away!”
● Songwriters Magazine “If you’re a fan of classic songwriting with a rocky edge then the new single
from Ragsy is definitely for you. “The First Time” races along while looking back at the strength of
feelings which accompany a blossoming relationship”.
‘Under Clear Skies’ will be released on 16.04.2020 and available to stream and
download from all major online distribution sites. The Song also has an animated lyric
video to support its release.
My Favourite Album

Reverence by Parkway Drive is my favourite album at the moment. It is their sixth studio album and was released in 2015. Parkway drive is an Australian metal core band who formed in 2003.
It would have to be my favourite album for the reason of the emotion behind it. It is their heaviest album but the band suffered a lot of loss and tragedy whilst writing the album which is especially shown in the song "wishing wells".
I have two favourite songs on the album which are "Prey" and "The Void". These songs explain how they all dealt with depression and other mental health problems and how they overcame them. These songs often receive the most hype from the audience when they are played live.
I think that this album was quite risky for the band as it was very out of their normal sound and is a lot heavier than their other albums. It received a great response as many people started to understand the emotion behind the lyrics.
Since the release of this album, they headlined festivals such as "Wacken festival" in Germany and have released a documentary about how they formed to headlining festivals called "Viva the Underdogs"
I think that Parkway Drive are a very good metal band and anyone who likes bands such as Metallica, Slayer, and Killswitch Engage.

My First Music Memory
Music is a big part of any person’s life and I personally connect each song or singer with a specific time of my life, or with a specific situation, or even a person.
I do not play any musical instrument or sing, but I cannot imagine a day without listening to the music that I like.
I used to be the child that could not stop moving! I always used to be a happy child and I was dancing over every song that was playing on TV or radio.
When I was in primary school, my sister used to have an iPod and we were always playing our own ‘’game’’, we would surprise each other with a song and one of us had to guess the title and the singer.
When I grew up a little bit, I remember that my mum let me use the computer to play some games.
My favourite part of using the computer was that I could visit YouTube and discover new songs of the singers that I used to like.
I was a big fan of Bruno Mars, in all of my childhood years! So, I was always learning the lyrics of all his songs and singing them alone in my room.
I was so obsessed with him and his songs and Watched his video clips for hours! I still hear some songs of Bruno Mars and I always feel that nostalgic feeling of the childhood years and it is something that makes me happy.
I also, used to listen to Avril Lavigne and Miley Cyrus.
To be honest, Miley Cyrus was my favorite between the two of them, I was looking up to her, she was my idol. Of course, I’ve watched every single movie of Miley Cyrus, and my forever favourite was ‘’The Last Song’’, where she sings the song ‘’when I look at you’’ which I like soo much!
Lockdown has allowed me time to watch again this movie and it really made me cry, I just love Miley and her songs.
However, when I went to high school, whenever I was sad, I listened to Lana Del Ray songs, so I always relate Lana with sadness. And you know, in high school, is the time that you are growing up and more things can make you feel sad, in comparison to the childhood years, so Lana Del Ray was my favourite in that period!
But whenever I was happy, I used to listen to Rihanna, Akon, Jay Sean, Chris Brown and many old school R’n’b songs, which I still love to listen to.
I really like all the singers that I have mentioned, but as I was growing up, my favourite style of music is Greek music.
I have always listened to Greek music, artists like Nikos Oikonomopoulos, Nikos Vertis, George Sambanis and many other Greek artists, especially this period that I am in Cardiff and far from my home.
Greek songs make me feel like I’m home and it makes me feel happier!
If you have never heard of any type of Greek music you should take a listen to some of the artists I have Mentioned, perhaps they will make you feel happy too!
Happy Yuri’s Night! The holiday you may of never heard of
There are plenty of holidays and celebrations throughout the year, but chances are you haven’t heard of half of them. For example, did you know that today is Yuris’ Night?
Kudos if you did, but if you didn’t, here’s a little bit about it…
Yuri’s Night is an unofficial holiday that honours and celebrates human space exploration. It commemorates the day in 1961 when Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to travel into space. It also celebrates the launch of the first space shuttle, Space Shuttle Columbia, on April 12th 1981.
The holiday was created in 2001, 40 years after the first ever successful human space flight. The aim was to help promote public interest in space exploration and encourage younger generations to consider proffesions in the field of space exploration and research.
The United Nation have even designated April 12th as the International Day of Human Space Flight. The collective message it aims to spread is to protect our planet and enhance what we have, not destroy it. Discovery and protecting areas of our planet along with space helps preserve things for future generations, whilst broadening our knowledge.
Space fans often celebrate the day by visitng space museums, watching documentaries about space exploration and meeting up with like-minded friends to talk about their love for the field.
With it being the 20th anniversary this year, there are several online events being hosted to still connect people and help celebrate the day. The official Yuri’s Night social media account has loads of fascinating facts, activies and virtual events that you can join in if you’re wanting to find out a bit more!
Cover of the Week

“Hi, I’m Ifan and I’m a 25 year old session guitarist from Cardiff. I recorded this cover as a tribute to Eddie Van Halen, arguably one of the best and influential rock guitarists.
Eddie is the reason why I picked up a guitar and have been playing for the last 13 years. Without him my life would’ve been very different.
I hope you enjoy this cover as much as I did making it. Thanks!”
